Land Acknowledgement
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people, who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful to the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and to those who have gone before us. We honour the land, history, ways of being, and our relationships with First Nation, Métis, and Inuit people as relationships of reconciliation, respect, understanding, and healing.
Who We Are
AB WIL Practitioners is a formal community of practice whose purpose is to build a supportive network of practitioners and fuel its members’ professional growth. We foster high-quality support for Alberta post-secondary students by enhancing WIL experiences, pedagogy, and policy through collaboration, collective learning, and open dialogue on emerging trends, challenges, and established practices. We work collaboratively with regional, provincial and federal WIL-engaged organizations.
We strengthen WIL practices through:
Relationships: Cultivating professional relationships within a collaborative learning environment, fostering a community that thrives on mutual support and cooperation.
Dialogue: Engaging in active dialogue, sharing wisdom and insights among post-secondary practitioners to continuously improve our practice.
Learning: Learning together and from each other, enhancing our collective expertise.
Respect for Diversity: Honouring the diversity and dynamic needs of our members by facilitating a space where knowledge and experiences are freely exchanged, ensuring inclusivity, and understanding.
Quality WIL: Advocating for and upholding national standards of quality in WIL, ensuring our programs are meaningful and beneficial to students, educators, institutions, partners, and their communities.
