OER Course Design

by Ashli Bumgardner

This project is focused on Universal, Accessible Design of Open Educational Resources (OER) specifically in the Canvas LMS. It is meant to train faculty who work in higher education who are designing a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) course using OER instead of traditional textbooks. This module includes foundational material for identifying reusable OER based on their attached Creative Commons licenses. This helps faculty identify what they can do with OER they find, and what the restrictions are. It includes training on using the Canvas Accessibility Checker to guide design of accessible content. It also includes an introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Principles. This module prepares learners for a later assignment in which they use an OER with a license that allows for remixing to create a Canvas activity that meets Accessibility Standards and Universal Design Principles.
