What is Round Dancing?
Round dancing, also known as Choreographed (or Cued) ballroom, is dancing to pre-choreographed routines where a cuer announces to the dancers what figures/steps come next just before the figures are to be executed; and dancers then execute those figures in unison. We dance in the same circular pattern used on the social dance floor.
Why Round Dance?
It is a wonderful activity that provides light/medium aerobic exercise, mental stimulation with memory recall, and physical coordination with communication with your feet. Using your mind to remember the cues may help to keep the mind sharp. It’s an excellent way to learn basic steps in several ballroom rhythms which can be used on the social dance floor! It is a way leaders learn to lead with confidence and the follower learns feet placement to follow more easily. It's a great way to get your mind off of a stressful work day.
I have two left feet. I can’t dance.
Choreographed Ballroom has less need to master the concepts of leading and following and frees dancers from memorized sequences and the leading and following concept, and the dancers can focus on the steps and the rhythm making this a great way to learn how to dance.
What type of music do you dance to?
We dance to a variety of music, and not limited to Classical to Pop and Country.
Do I have to wear special dresses?
No. Come dressed in something comfortable. Dress is casual – no fancy clothing or costumes
What expense is involved?
The lessons are $5.00 for a one hour lesson.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
We have made you-tube videos which show us teaching the cues.
What if I don't have a partner?
No problem. We have dancers that need dance partners.
Do I have to change partners?
No. We encourage you to dance with your partner. It is teamwork since both hear the cues, either dancer can help the other dancer. You do not have to guess what the lead is trying to communicate to the follower with hand pressures. The lead and follow are given the rhythm and steps to take, so less work and frustration for the lead and for the follower.
Can I come and visit a dance?
Yes, You're welcome to visit and watch to see if this is something you would like to try. We'd be glad to meet you and answer any questions you may have.
I think I may have difficulties hearing the cuer.
We have a system for those who need help isolating the voice of the cuer over the music.
