The CGETDC traces its humble beginning under the Coast Guard Training Center (CGTC) way back in 1973 at Cavite Naval Base, Sangley Point, Cavite City. In the year 1987, CGTC was placed under the Naval Training Center (NTC). However, its structure affected the PCG personnelβs career development pattern. For almost four years under NTC, the CGTC conducted only a minimal number of Coast Guard peculiar courses. With the growing complexity of the PCGβs role and functions, the CGTC was reactivated on 26 March 1992, now as a special unit of the Philippine Coast Guard. As the PCG aims to man every island of the archipelago, its demand for personnel is continuously and rapidly increasing. This led to the CGETDCβs expansion of training centers across the Philippines. Currently, the Command has activated Regional Training Center (RTC) Taguig, RTC La Union, RTC Bataan, RTC Hinoba-an, RTC Zamboanga, RTC Masbate, and RTC Laguindingan, with the intent of activating more RTCs while exploring more possibilities to activate RTCs in areas such as Roxas, Sibutu, Basilan, Negros, and Nueva Ecija.
Moreover, the renaming of CGETDC comes up with the conceptualization of its new logo, incorporating the significance of doctrines and its extensive role to quality education and training.
