Easley, South Carolina – Senseless Shooting

On April 3, 2025, Antwan Jackson Sr of Easley, SC went to an automotive repair shop shortly after lunchtime to have a tire checked for leaking air. They couldn’t help him within the timeframe he needed to be able to get his children off the school bus. Antwan told the automotive shop that he would be right back after taking care of his children. As he was driving back to his home, the tire on his truck did not feel right and was making noise. He knew he needed to check the tire because he felt it would not make it back to his house. Antwan pulled into a friend’s driveway to ask permission to check his tire in their driveway. As he was approaching the front door to ask for permission, he was instantly met by a young man holding pistol; Antwan stated to the young man that he knows his parents but, the young man shot Antwan through the screen door and it hit his hand, bullets shooting all around him until the gun jammed. Antwan ran for his life (defenseless and without a phone) for approximately 2 blocks going uphill, yelling for help until his body lost so much blood that he collapsed in a ditch. The shooter caught up to him and shot him again with a second weapon (9mm) in the head. The shooter ran off. Antwan was able to muster the strength to get to the nearest house’s front door. He thought he was going to die. He knew he had to use the last of his energy and strength to get help – or at least get a message to his wife and children. Antwan was banging on the nearby neighbor’s front door with his injured hand, not even realizing…. just trying to get help. He looked and saw a camera and started talking into it pleading for help and getting a message to his family. Then he noticed a truck driving by – he ran in that direction to get help. Luckily, he was finally able to get help And get to a hospital.

Antwan had to have reconstructive surgery on his hand to treat 10+ broken bones, repair tissue, tendons, muscles, and nerves. As of right now, the bullet in his head fractured his C7 vertebrae and sits between C4 & C5. Many people that have C7 injuries end up in a situation where they cannot use their limbs and/or are paralyzed. My friend, Antwan Jackson is at home walking! He is recovering with his family – but he still has a very long road ahead of him.

Easley Police said a 17-year-old is facing an attempted murder charge after a shooting Thursday.The suspect, Jaylen Tyshun Dacus, was arrested and being held at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Dacus was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
