Biography

About Abir Chermiti:

Abir Chermiti ,24 years old, from Tunisia. I was born in Kairouan, in a simple family, where I learnt how to be independent and work hard to achieve my dreams and make my parents proud of me.

I studied Software Engineering at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technologies of Sousse (ISSAT Sousse)

I’m a tech lover and a knowledge seeker, every day, for me, is a new start and a new experience that I’m looking to learn something new and different.

I never take

IEEE Experience:

As a first step in my life change, it was establishing a student branch of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) in my university, a group of students sharing a common goal, the love of Technology and the passion of building a better Tomorrow.

I worked in a team, with girls and boys, and we organized many Events and Hackathons: Technical and Social events.

The main goal was to involve students in Tech fields, advise them, and develop their technical skills (by trainings and conferences).

What is more important, and we can say that was a new achievement is the Network that we created between students and professionals, an International network that offers many opportunities to young engineers in their career.

IEEE Women In Engineering Experience:

Another experience I lived; I have the honor to be a part of the IEEE Women In Engineering community (WIE), as a volunteer one of the largest international professional organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests in a career in engineering.

I established an affinity group in my university, and now we are about 45 members (men and women), and I encouraged many girls to establish their own affinity groups in their universities to encourage girls to get involved and develop their personal and technical skills, convincing them that a girl can code, a girl can lead.

Hackathons Experience:

· IEEEXtreme Challenge:

- I am the IEEE Region 8 (Middle East – Europe and Africa) Regional Co-Lead.

- IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members—advised and proctored by an IEEE member, and often supported by an IEEE Student Branch—compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems.

- My role was to introduce the challenge to IEEE members, encourage them to get involved specially, I was inviting Girls to be a part of the Tech life and take the challenge to prove their skills “A girl can Code”.

· NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016: 22-24 April 2016

I was the local lead of the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2016 in Tunisia, It was a successful challenge in which Students from colleges and universities from many cities were participating.

· RoboComp 2015: 17 March 2015

The Robotic Competition was organized by the IEEE Student Branch in my University and I was the Local Arrangement Chair.

· 24H of Innovation Challenge:

It is an International challenge launched by ESTIA Institute in France, I participated in the last 2 editions:

- 2014: The first prize with my team “Techno-Hands”: project: “The Mercy Bread Machine”.

- 2015: The second prize with my team “Techno-Hands”: project “Smart Vision”.

· “Time To Go pro” Challenge organized by “Junior d’Entreprise”:

- 2014: The second prize with my team: project “Eco-Compost”.

· IEEE WIE Innovation Apps 2015:

I was the founder of the first edition of IEEE Women In Engineering Innovation Apps Contest for Humanitarian Activities, that was in Conjunction with Tunisian Innovation Days 2015: the idea of the challenge is participants will be presenting their Apps (mobile or web) that have an impact on Humanity.
