Abingdon workhouse

The Abingdon Union Workhouse existed for almost 100 years from 1835. One of the first to be built as a result of the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834, it served a wide area of Berkshire and part of Oxfordshire (before the 1974 changes to county boundaries, Abingdon was in Berkshire).
