ABHS DRAMA - SPRING MUSICAL

The Anchor Bay High School Drama students are proud to present their spring musical, The Wizard of Oz by By L. Frank Baum - With music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg - Background music by Herbert Stothart! The show will take place at the Anchor Bay High School Performing Arts Center on April 18th, 19th, and 20th.

Anchor bay bands - distRIct xvi band festival
March 11th, 2024
Congratulations to the Anchor Bay High School 9th Grade Symphonic Band, Cadet/Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. On Thursday, March 7th and Friday, March 8th, the bands participated in the District 16 MSBOA Band Festival hosted here at Anchor Bay High School.
In the five performance categories of Tone, Intonation, Rhythm, Technique, and Interpretation, the panel of four adjudicators awarded each of the four ABHS ensembles with an overall SUPERIOR First Division rating. Of the 20 performance grades, the Cadet/Concert Band received 10 A’s, the 9th Grade Symphonic Band received 17 A’s, the Symphonic Band received 16 A’s, and the Wind Ensemble received 20 A’s with eight A+’s and two A++s! This is in addition to both MS North and MS South having wonderful performances at the MSBOA Middle School Band Festival during their respective events. It is the 25th year in a row that the Wind Ensemble received a First Division, and the 27th year in a row that the Symphonic Band received a First Division at this annual assessment for concert bands in the state of Michigan. We have many reasons to take pride in the accomplishments of our Anchor Bay School District student-musicians! #TarSpirit
ABHS DRAMA - REGIONAL AND STATES ONE ACT COMPETITON

In the world of theatre, we have much to celebrate, many students receiving special recognition for their efforts and achievements at the One Act Competitive Festivals this month. Our one act show Pageant Perfect competed at the one act regional festival at Henry Ford II High School on February 3rd. Receiving awards were the following: for excellence in acting—as Ms. New Mexico - Kylie Leija; and as Jeremy Brewster - Joseph Sonneberger. The following received superior awards as listed: for Early Morning Load In - Full Company; for Comedic Duo - Kai Strong and Alanna Riggs; for Set Design - Sam Dahlman, Tiara Lafave, Sophia LeBeau, Jason Weed; for Sound Design/Effects - Cody Powers, Kayla Rice; for Stage Crew - Sam Dahlman, Vivan Dombro, Axle Frey, Skylar Geremesz, Kendra Harrison, London Hudgins, Tiara LaFave, Sophia LeBeau, Maya Monden, Autumn Sproul, Jason Weed; and for Make-Up - Axle Frey, Essance Johnson, Ava LaRue, Leah Mitchell, Skylar Wight. Our show scored well advanced to state finals on February 17th at Wayne State University.
Again, many of our students earned awards at State Festival for their efforts and achievements Receiving recognition of excellence for their work were the following: as Miss California—Madilyn Mellon; as Miss Texas—Kaylee Coltman; as Jim-Bobby Bake—Mick Barnes; for Sound Design/Effects— Cody Power and Kayla Rice; for Sound Execution—Cody Power, Kayla Rice and Ellie Thomas; for scene transitions and Stage Crew—Mick Barnes, Kaylee Coltman, Sam Dahlman, Vivian Dombro, Derrick Hosking, Ruth Hubbert, Essence Johnson, Ava LaRue, Ava Lazarra, Sophia LeBeau, Kylie Leija, Sarah McGraw, Madilyn Mellon, Leah Mitchell, Maya Monden, Alanna Riggs, Joseph Sonneberger, Kai Strong, Jason Weed, Kelsey Woolman; for Lobby Display—Sam Dahlman, Kendra Harrison, Jason Weed, Kayla Rice, and Maya Monden; and for Costume Design—Autumn Sproul. Receiving recognition for superior achievement for their work were the following: as Miss New Mexico—Kylie Leija; for Lighting Design—Kayla Rice; for Lighting Execution—Kayla Rice and Ellie Thomas; for Playbill—Kaylee Coltman, Sam Dahlman, Vivian Dombro, Kendra Harrison, Derrick Hosking, Maya Monden, Kayla Rice, Ellie Thomas, and Jason Weed; for Media Usage—the technical crew. Congratulations are due to ALL of the cast and crew!!! Thank you to all of the staff, community members, and parents who supported us all along the journey to, and from, States!

ABHS DRAMA - DISTRICT ONE ACT COMPETITON

Anchor Bay High School attended the district theatre festival hosted by Cheasning High School on Saturday, January 20th with our one-act production of Pageant Perfect by Kelly Meadows. Our cast and crew did an incredible job, receiving an overall rating of I for the production, and many students received recognition for their outstanding efforts and achievements. Receiving recognitions of superior achievement were the following: for the show’s playbill, Vivian Dombro, Kendra Harrison, Mick Barnes, Ava Lazarra, and Kai Strong; for acting, Kylie Leija for her role as Juanita and Leah Mitchell for her role as Jane Swellings/Miss Utah; for sound, Cody Powers, Kayla Rice, and Elenor Thomas for design and execution; and for scene transition execution, the stage crew including Sam Dahlman, Natalie Frey, Skylar Geremesz, London Hudgins, Tiara LaFave, Sophia LeBeau, Maya Monden, and Jason Weed. Mick Barnes and Leah Mitchell also received recognitions of excellence for their portrayals of Mr. and Mrs. Montanez. We will travel again on Saturday, February 3rd, to Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights to share the fruits of our labor and attempt to secure a spot at the state theatre festival the following weekend which will be hosted by Wayne State University February 16th and 17th. Again, the festivals are open to the polite public. Come out and enjoy this amazing activity and support the arts!

CONGRATS to the Marching Tars on an incredible performance yesterday for MSBOA D16 Marching Band Festival, held at L'Anse Creuse North HS! The Marching Tars earned straight Division 1 ratings by the three adjudicators for Music, Marching, and General Effect. Each category has three letter grades within it, and they earned straight A's! THANK YOU to the amazing student-musicians and parents for a memorable night! #TarSpirit
