New (1): Position(s) available for students and researchers!!!

I am looking for students/researchers with background in computing who would be interested in working on a short-term (~3 months) or longer-term research project at the intersection of optimization and machine learning, with application to mechanical sciences.  Please feel free to contact me at abhishekgupta@iitgoa.ac.in with a detailed CV if interested.

New (2): I have been identified in a list of top-cited scientists (the top 2% in the world) for the year 2023 published here.

About Me

I currently hold a Ramanujan Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Technology, Goa. I am an IEEE Senior Member, Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Complex & Intelligent Systems Journal, Memetic Computing Journal, and Editorial Board member of the Springer Book Series on Adaptation, Learning, and Optimization. I am serving as Program Chair of the highly anticipated 2024 IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence to be held in Singapore

I was previously a Scientist at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Singapore. Before that I was a Research Scientist/Fellow at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (under the tutelage of Professor Yew-Soon Ong). I received my PhD in Engineering Science in the year 2014 from the University of Auckland (under the supervision of Professors Piaras Kelly, Matthias Ehrgott and Simon Bickerton), and my B.Tech in 2010 from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (where I worked on topics in applied mechanics under the guidance of Professors S. Pradyumna and Shishir Kumar Sahu).

My current research interests span diverse topics in computational intelligence and computational and data-driven modeling of engineering systems, with emphasis on neuroevolutionary algorithms, physics-informed machine learning and Bayesian optimization algorithms. I am co-inventor of 1 US Patent on a novel method for training probabilistic multi-task learning models, and my scientific publications have been bestowed two prestigious IEEE Transactions Outstanding Paper Awards for pioneering algorithmic and theoretical contributions to the field of evolutionary multitasking.
