My name is Abhigyan Sahoo (ଅଭିଜ୍ଞାନ ସହୂ/अभिज्ञान साहू) and use He/Him/His as my pronouns. I am currently majoring in psychology from Christ University, Bangalore. I am a Research Assistant at Center for Social and Cultural Psychology  at Université libre de Bruxelles under Jasper Van Assche, Ph.D. You can download my Curriculum vitae (CV) here.

As an Indian cisgender gay man throughout my school life, childhood and teenage years, I have experienced body shaming and gender policing, including teasing and comments about my body size and stereotype and perceptions that my mannerisms, such as the way I walk or speak, did not conform to traditional expectations of masculinity in a society. I witnessed gender oppression towards women and marginalized communities, colorism, caste and religious-based discrimination in the society I live.

These experiences highlight my research and academic aspirations of becoming an aspiring Social Psychologist interested in how do race, identity, groups, language shapes politics and social inequalities and the ongoing political climate in India ranging from justice to Adivasi communities, People of Manipur and protests led by youth of India asking for accountability to the government. This positionality has guide me to approach my research with humility and reflexive practice, remain transparent of my analytical decisions, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and ways to uplift each other.

My goal is to share resources and uplift First-Generation, Low-Income (FGLI) and International students who may not have adequate support to navigate academia and research opportunities. Please reach out to me.
