Project Overview: The Enterprise Platform team at Indeed strives to connect the various teams and Employer-product areas across the company so that they can create consistent experiences for these teams and their users. As a UX designer assigned to Enterprise Platform, I applied insights from stakeholder interviews, secondary user research, and UX audits to create a page header feature on the Employer site that improved navigation for recruiters & hiring managers as well as gave cohesion and flexibility to Employer product teams.
Goal (objective): Exploratory research to understand issues users had with navigating the Employer site and the challenges faced by Employer-product teams in order to find a solution that aligned the needs of the teams and their users.
Team: As a UX designer on the Enterprise Platform team, I worked directly with three designers, one researcher and one developer.
Duration: June - Sept. 2022
Methods: UX audit, secondary research, interview script, stakeholder interviews, affinity mapping
Role:
Conducted a UX audit to identify what issues were affecting the Employer site’s usability as well as gain familiarity with the site’s features and functionality.
Referred to past benchmarking studies to understand what issues users were experiencing on the Employer site.
Conducted stakeholder interviews to understand what solutions Employer teams were considering to address users’ needs and pain points while also understanding the challenges these teams faced in implementing those solutions.
Synthesized research findings to uncover key insights that led to a more clearly defined problem space.
Key Insights:
Users were unaware of the many of the features and functionality within the Employer site.
Users found it difficult to find features that would enable them to complete certain tasks
The placement of some features within the site was not readily obvious to users, which led them to experience navigation issues.
End result:
Created a page header feature that was placed at the top of the Employer site, reduced task times in half for end users, and gave cohesion and flexibility for Employer-product teams.
Reflections:
I would like to have interviewed more Employer teams so that I could gain more exposure to different solutions these teams were brainstorming and potentially uncover more issues users had with navigating the Employer site.
I would also have conducted usability tests on the page header feature prior to handing it off to developers so that I can modify it based on user feedback.
