America's Premier work of art on mass incarceration.
The Incarceration Nation Billboard is the first in a series of Silicon Valley art works. A new work will be installed during each of the four seasons, Fall of 2021 - Summer of 2022. Each new work will lead to a path towards the Santa Cruz Mountains.
These kinds of art installations are part of the latest trend in the Art World, known as "Look Up!" This series of "Look Up!" art exhibitions is the brainchild of Cupertino High, San Jose State University grad, Paralegal and Silicon Valley Fine Art and Real Estate Broker based in San Jose, Anna D. Smith.
Smith's inaugural Silicon Valley "Look Up!" exhibition features America's Premier work of art on mass incarceration. Incarceration Nation is a work by the world's most prolific prisoner artist, California prisoner Donald "C-Note" Hooker. Fashioned after UK graffiti artist Banksy, whose works are known for their social commentary.
In 2021, Polaroid released its Polaroid Now x Keith Haring Edition camera. Haring was a New York City subway station Graffiti writer. Later he transitioned to an internationally-known Street artist. Haring, who died of AIDS complications in 1990 was a prolific user of the Polaroid camera. California prison-artist C-Note, who was a part of the groundbreaking Mercy fashion line by Makenzie Stiles, knows a thing or two about the power of images.
The above image is one of two iconic Polaroid Now x Keith Haring Edition, Color I-type film photos of C-Note's Incarceration Nation at the "Look Up!" Art Exhibition. These two rare photos are called ICONS after these three survivors, Polaroid, Haring, and C-Note.
