Ali is an assistant professor in food and agricultural economics and sustainable rural development at Fayoum University, Egypt, and a former researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Bonn, Germany. He finished a postdoctoral fellowship at South China Agricultural University. Ali has more than 15 years of experience as a facilitator and consultant on many national and international sustainable rural development projects. His research interests include climate-smart agriculture, global value chains, food-fuel-fertilizer co-movement price analysis, food systems transformation and resilience, economics of renewable energy management in developing countries, sustainable resource management, and rural development towards a circular economy. He also focuses on the geopolitical risks and market shocks that affect global food systems, agricultural innovation, digital transformation, the environmental economy, sustainable agriculture, and poverty reduction in rural areas. 

Ali pursues sustainable agriculture, zero hunger, reduced food losses and waste, and food security.
