The LPC deals with images captured by a free hand camera or by a camera mounted on the laser scanner. In the camera mounted approach, one reprocessing step for merged point clouds is required. In the free hand camera approach, a registration step between the point cloud and the captured digital images is required.
The recovery of a real traffic crossing and a historical site are shown. The main advantage of the obtained 3D colored cloud is that it represents the scene with no need for any further modeling processes which is impossible in some cases (trees – shields - cars). The automation level in the developed algorithm and software gives also the technique the flexibility in the coloring process from multiple images.
