Register your team to participate in this challenge by filling out the registration form on the following link
The challenge is open to both students and working individuals.
Mandatory Registration
All participants, including solo challengers, must complete and submit the Team Registration Form prior to joining the competition.
In the form, fill in the following fields:
Title: Enter your team name.
Abstract: This field may be left blank.
Track Selection: Choose the specific challenge track your team is participating in.
Team Size
There is no restriction on the number of team members, but every team member is expected to contribute actively.
Team Members
There is no limit to team size.
Only supervisors can participate in multiple teams within the same challenge.
Special Considerations
If creating multiple teams from the same lab, ensure compliance with the No Private Sharing rule.
For team mergers, participants must contact the organizers via email.
Participation Across Challenges
Students are allowed to join multiple ABC challenges.
However, students affiliated with the host or organizing laboratories are not eligible to participate.
Private sharing of code or data outside your team is strictly prohibited. Teams must maintain confidentiality to ensure fair competition.
To successfully complete the challenge, participants must:
Deliverables
Participants must develop a system that processes the provided continuous fixed-camera 3x3 basketball videos and automatically tracks, identifies, and localizes all six on-court players.
The final submission should provide, for every detected player in each video frame:
1. the frame ID;
2. the player's court position (court_x, court_y);
3. the player's team ID (A or B);
4. the player's jersey number.
The combination of team ID and jersey number represents the persistent identity of each player throughout the video.
Participants should submit predictions for all evaluation videos according to the official submission format provided by the organizers.
Paper Submission
Provide a paper detailing your methodology in alignment with the challenge objectives.
At least one team member is required to present the per in the workshop.
By default, accepted papers will be published under IJABC (International Journal of Activity Behavior and Computing) under Jstage. For paper format, please check the ABC Main website.
The evaluation involves player detection, localization, temporal tracking, and identification.
Submitted systems will be evaluated according to their ability to:
1. Correctly detect all six on-court players
2. Accurately estimate each player's court position
3. Maintain consistent player tracks over time
4. Correctly identify each player's team
5. Correctly identify each player's jersey number
6. Minimize missed and duplicate player predictions
7. Maintain player identity across continuous videos and viewpoint changes
The evaluation is designed to test cross-view generalization, particularly the ability of models trained mainly on top-view footage to perform accurately on unseen oblique-view videos.
Evaluation Overview
The challenge goal is to evaluate whether a system can accurately track, localize, and identify players throughout continuous 3x3 basketball videos.
The official ranking metric is:
Track-ID HOTA (TI-HOTA)
TI-HOTA jointly evaluates:
Player Detection & Localization
Measures whether players are correctly detected and accurately positioned on the court.
Temporal Association
Measures whether the same player is consistently tracked across frames.
Player Identification
Measures whether the correct team and jersey number are assigned to each player.
The official evaluation uses a 100 cm court-distance parameter. The final challenge score is calculated from the TI-HOTA scores of the final evaluation videos.
Additional diagnostic metrics include:
TI-DetA
TI-AssA
Median court-position error
Team-identification accuracy
Jersey-number accuracy
Higher TI-HOTA scores indicate better overall tracking and identification performance.
The paper should be written in English, following the ABC formatting guidelines. The paper should be 8-12 pages including references. The expected contents of the paper are:
Abstract: A concise summary of the team’s proposed method and the results.
Methodology: A detailed description of the methodology, including the dataset, preprocessing, model development, and evaluation metrics.
Results and Discussion: A presentation and analysis of the results and a discussion of the strengths and limitations of the proposed method.
Conclusion: A summary of the team’s main findings, implications, and suggestions for future work.
References: A list of references, including three main papers of the challenge (published paper about the dataset, LOPDO evaluation and challenge summary paper). Challenge Summary Paper will be provided upon confirmation with the hosts. Kindly submit camera-ready ahead.
For information regarding the Registration for the ABC conference, visit the main ABC2027 website.
The winning team will be awarded 100,000 JPY and Wearable Devices for Activity and Behaviour Tracking (approximate Total Value $800 - $1000).
Each of the participating teams will be awarded with participation certificate.
