In the next few years, I would like to specialise within the field of Learning Technology, focusing in on certain areas which will work well alongside my existing knowledge of technology enhanced learning in Higher Education. The areas on which I wish to focus my attention as a Learning Technologist are UX/UI and designing for accessibility. I find it important to understand a user journey when accessing a course, to ensure that students benefit from the structure of a course and can navigate it in an intuitive way. Furthering my knowledge on accessibility will also complement the work I have already done on the subject and ideally allow me to best support academics and students on their individual learning journeys. With the increasing prevalence of AI in education, I would also like to focus my efforts on researching and supporting authentic assessment, so students are able to benefit from the ever-changing educational landscape.
In terms of CPD, I believe I can reach these goals by my continued efforts on the LOUISA project, where I am involved in a User Research workstream. Working with UX specialists and other Learning Technologists across the institution is a great way to understand the bigger picture. I am also intending to undertake courses in UX and accessibility design through the UX Design Institute. I believe that my current knowledge in Learning Technology will work nicely with these newfound skills to allow me to have a positive impact on the future of higher education. Being involved in these areas will not only align with the University’s goals to improve student satisfaction but complement my own goals to participate in the ever-changing and exciting sector of Technology Enhanced Learning in UK Higher Education.
