“A key component of the course involves completing practical data analysis tasks in the labs.

Abby has helped instructors move from individual work to group work. She created group sets on LEARN, which allowed staff to manage a large number of groups in a smooth way. She also helped us by implementing peer assessment of contribution using the WebPA tool. The setup was easy and straightforward to use for instructors, tutors, and students.

Before the introduction of group work with peer assessment of contribution using WebPA, student attendance was roughly around 20%. After the introduction of peer assessment of contribution using WebPA, attendance was roughly 80%. Students were more likely to attend if they knew that their contribution affected their grade.”

Excellence in Digital Teaching and Learning

In addition to these examples, I have undertaken courses through Blackboard which has resulted in acquiring a certificate in Excellence in Digital Teaching and Learning. Participating in this course has given me real-life experience in learning principles for course and assessment design, and prompted reflection on themes such as digital literacy, OERs, accessibility and personalising learning based on needs and learning strategies of students.

"Across year one of the LOUISA project, Abby stepped in to support and lead on some of the Communications and Engagement activities to help the project design and create a new project SharePoint that would be used as a communications hub for the project, in particular – the Early Adopter Programme.

Abby worked with colleagues on the LOUISA Communications and Engagement workstream to define and create a site map for the LOUISA SharePoint in preparation for the SharePoint being built. In order to deliver upon this, Abby had to:

Understand the key aims of the LOUISA project and what the SharePoint would set out to deliver;
Work closely with colleagues to understand what content would be required on the SharePoint to be able to deliver on the key aims of the project;
Work closely with the User Experience (UX) team to ensure that the content provided supported the findings from the user research being conducted via the project;
Understand the needs and requirements of the Early Adopter Programme and look at what would be needed to support colleagues who take part in this programme across the upcoming academic year.

With all of this completed, Abby with the help of some colleagues was able to design a LOUISA SharePoint site map that was approved by the project team in preparation for being created. The LOUISA SharePoint is now live and is in continuous improvement as the project progress, with the support of Abby and the team to ensure it delivers upon the requirements of the project and suits the needs of it’s users.

Along with the work being undertaken on the SharePoint, Abby has continued to support the Communications and Engagement strand of the project by attending the Professional Services User Groups (3 sessions delivered across the 24/25 AY), helping drive the discussions and engage with colleagues during these sessions to tease out key information, pertinent to the project. To support with this, Abby created a personal reflections blog (LOUISA Professional Services User Group: a Learning Technologist’s View) that helped showcase the value of the user groups for both the project and colleagues within Schools.

A massive thank you to Abby for her help and support over the last 12 months (and for the remainder of the project!)."
