Who is Alan Beam?
Mr. Beam retired in July 2023 while serving as the Interim Assistant Dean of Instruction at Washburn Tech. After 40+ years in education, he wishes to continue serving educators. He returned to Washburn Tech to manage their Professional Development, substitute teaching, and programs at the two correctional facilities in the summer of 2025.

Mr. Beams Educational Career:
His educational career began in 1982 as a secondary teacher/coach at Washington H.S. in Washington, Ks. During his career, he taught middle school & high school social studies and community college, both face-to-face and online social sciences. He served as an adjunct in the educational leadership program at Washburn University. He's been an athletic director, high school principal, curriculum and staff development director, instructional coach, and interim superintendent. He started at Washburn Tech as the Director for Instruction in 2019 and retired as the Interim Assistant Dean of Instruction. In total, he has 40+ years of educational experience.
Mr. Beams Education:
Background - Undergrad at Emporia State BSE in Social Science. Masters at Washburn University in K - 12 Leadership. District Leadership License at Emporia State. In addition, he is trained in Kagan Cooperative Learning, Fish! Philosophy, Professional Learning Communities, Critical Friends, and much more.
Mr. Beams Professional Service Includes:
District Steering Chair for QPA/NCA, Technology Committee, Student Improvement Team, Professional Development Council, Community Internet Trainer, District Grant Writing Team, member of the FCCLA State Board, President of FCCLA State Board, KASSP Board Member, United School Administrator Board Member and was a mentor in the Kansas Kal-Tech Program (Gates Foundation).
