PurrrPose
A mobile app design that provides a platform to connect animal lovers to animal welfare organizations that help rescue and assist stray animals.
Overview
PurrrPose aims to help stray animals be rescued, cared for, and connected with loving homes. By using technology to streamline reporting and response, it saves lives and promotes empathy and responsibility in communities.
Problem
Stray animals in India face numerous challenges, including lack of shelter, medical care, and adoption opportunities. Without intervention, these animals often suffer from neglect, injury, and disease, while communities struggle to address the issue effectively.
The Goal
"PurrrPose" aims to mitigate the suffering of stray animals in India by providing a comprehensive platform for rescue, shelter, adoption, and community engagement. Through technological innovation and collaborative efforts with NGOs and pet lovers, the app seeks to streamline the process of assisting stray animals and promoting responsible pet ownership, ultimately creating a more compassionate and humane society for both animals and humans.

Research: Understanding the User
Summary
The user research for this project was conducted under time constraints and with limited resources. Due to these limitations, the research primarily relied on gathering information from the internet, as well as insights from close friends and family members who have experience with stray animals or pet ownership.
An online interview form was created and distributed to gather additional input from a wider audience. Initially, the research was based on assumptions about the challenges and needs of individuals interested in helping stray animals, as well as the potential effectiveness of the proposed app solution.
However, as the research progressed, it became apparent that there were nuanced challenges and preferences among users that were not initially accounted for.
The key insights were: Diverse User Needs, Lack of information, Financial constraints, and Limited accessibility to support networks and resources.
Pain Points
Lack of Information and Resources
Users often struggle to find reliable information and resources on how to assist stray animals effectively. This includes not knowing whom to contact for help, where to find nearby shelters or vet clinics, and how to safely handle rescue situations.
Limited Accessibility to Support
Many users encounter difficulties in accessing timely support or assistance when they come across a stray animal in need.
Safety Concerns and Risk Factors
Users often face safety concerns and risk factors when attempting to help stray animals, particularly in situations involving injured, aggressive, or frightened animals. Fear of injury, disease transmission, or legal repercussions can deter individuals from intervening or providing aid.
Financial Constraints
Users often face financial constraints when it comes to helping stray animals, including the costs associated with veterinary care, medication, food, and shelter.

Ideation: Starting the Design Process
Paper Wireframes
Before I started working on paper wireframes, I first made a list of all the necessary elements and information that needed to be included. Then, I took pen to paper and began ideating. I created at least four versions for each frame, exploring ideas and approaching them from different angles. In the end, I selected the best elements from different versions that worked best from the user's perspective.
Digital Wireframes
After creating several paper wireframes, I transitioned to digital wireframes.

Usability Testing
Usability study: Parameters
Study Type: Unmoderated Usability Study
Location: Mumbai, India, Remote
Participants: 5 participants, 3 Females, and 2 Males between the ages of 20-50
Duration: 10-20mins
Usability study: Insights
These were the main findings uncovered by the usability study:
Create Fab Icon: Users didn't understand the usage of the 'Create' fab icon on the homepage. It was confusing and distracting
Services/Thank You: In the Services 'Thank You' banner, the reward section saying 'Congratulations' seemed insensitive to some users.
Iteration: Refining the Design
Design System
Final Product
Based on insights from the usability studies, I applied design changes such as the usage of the fab icon was confusing for some users which is why we decided to add it to the navigation bar where the text is displayed for accessibility. As well as users can get access to it from any page. Changed the title from Adoption/Foster to Find a Home. Users were confused with the functionality of it, if it was for users wanting to adopt or for users who wanted to find someone to adopt the animal.

Accessibility considerations
When choosing a color palette, I made sure my primary colors met WCAG AA Compliance before building out the UI for each screen.
I used headings with different-sized text for a clear visual hierarchy.
Takeaways
Impact:
This app has not only created a platform for all pet lovers but also aims to help stray animals and focuses on their well-being. The main aim of the app is to assist animals, making it easier for animal lovers to come forward and help them with the app's easy navigation and seamless technology.
What I learned:
Through this project, I've learned problem-solving by addressing challenges in stray animal welfare. I've developed user-centric designs, creating responsive designs. Also, realised the importance of usability study findings.
Next Steps
I would like to create a campaign to promote and advertise this app. So more and more people would become aware.
Create initial help guideline video on all the features of the app so that we can guide the users through the app easily.
I would like to pitch this app idea to the clients and stakeholders.
