"Win(d) of Change: Applied Sport Psychology in the Modern Landscape of Collegiate Athletics"
Dr. Fernando Frias joined the Oregon State University Athletics staff in October 2018. He previously served as the CAPS athletics department liaison starting in August 2016. Frias is passionate about serving student-athletes and addressing the multiple roles and unique pressures faced by this population. Guided by established best practices for student-athlete mental health care, Frias is dedicated to creating a culture of care that promotes academic and athletic excellence, personal development, and lifelong wellness. Frias graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He attended the University of Utah, earning a master’s degree in exercise and sport science, before obtaining a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver. He completed both his doctoral internship and postdoctoral residency at the University of California, Davis, Student Health and Counseling Services in the emphasis area of applied sport psychology. Frias is a licensed psychologist in the State of Oregon. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® as administered by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and is listed in the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Sport Psychology Registry.
"Stepping stones: A reflection on research to practice work in the youth sports ecosystem."
Dr. McCleery works at the University of Washington's Center for Leadership in Athletics; she is a researcher and advocate who specializes in research translation and interdisciplinary work in the fields of youth sports, women's sports, coaching, physical activity and play equity. She is passionate about using research to assist in dismantling systems of harm and oppression and cocreating interventions that provide a path forward that centers joy, safety, and quality in sport and play. In the past 5 years, she has helped cocreate and guide the King County Play Equity Coalition, a collective action network of over 100 organizations in King County, WA dedicated to closing the play equity gap. She has Masters from Harvard, a PhD from UW, and she's currently pursuing her JD at Seattle University in order to better find legal and regulatory approaches to the intractable challenges in youth sports. She loves hiking with her dogs and reading historical fiction.
"Lessons from a Winding Path in Sport & Performance Psychology"
Dr. Arthur-Cameselle (she/her/hers) is a licensed psychologist and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She has provided sport and performance psychology counseling to individuals at the professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational levels, including actors, dancers, and musicians. She leads sport psychology group seminars at collegiate athletic departments as well as golf and tennis clubs around the country. In addition, she works directly with coaches and leaders on performance enhancement, managing group dynamics, and self-care. Prior to working in academia, Dr. Arthur-Cameselle was a full-time psychologist in college counseling center settings (Vassar College, Purchase College). Her clinical expertise is in treating eating disorders, social anxiety, panic disorder, and OCD.
