AASL Standards Digital Breakout

The AASL National School Library Standards are a national set of standard frameworks for school libraries. They were released in November 2017. The standards are competency based, so they can be applied to any grade level and freely flow to many different content areas. Since their release, you've studied the standards and know how to apply them to your curriculum.

Your district has just hired a new teacher-librarian. Help her master the standards by completing the puzzles.

Enter your responses in the Form at the bottom of the page. Responses must be exact in order to break the lock. Remember, you can always access resources and support at standards.aasl.org.

There are six Shared Foundations in the national standards. Each foundation is divided into domains. Complete the puzzle to unlock the NUMBER LOCK.

Each Shared Foundation is defined by a Key Commitment. Think of these as a "big idea" for each foundation. The Shared Foundations and Domains create a matrix illustrating each competency. Overall, there are 68 competency-based standards.

In the video, students discuss their interpretation of one of the Shared Foundations. Each student shares how they gather information and decide what to use and what to discard.

Building a set of custom resources is part of the research process! It's also beneficial for educators to use this in practice so that lessons are tailored to learner needs. This video unlocks the SIX LETTER word lock.
