I am generally interested in teaching introductory geography courses and GIS courses of all levels. Intro geography courses are essential to expose people to the ideas and concepts geographers employ daily. As many students do not know of career opportunities in geography, I like to use these courses to expose students to the idea.
Introduction Geography courses are also essential to making good GIS users. While non-geographers can learn GIS skillsets, they often need to gain some of the general knowledge and concepts taught in intro courses. If someone wants to make a full career out of GIS, a strong foundation in geography is essential.
I have taught Introduction to Geography as a primary instructor at UConn and a 14-week GIS class at Connecticut Children's Hospital focused on GIS Health applications. I have also served as a teaching assistant for many courses at both UConn and NMSU. In the future, I would be interested in creating GIS courses focused on Distributed GIS and QGIS, as well as advanced classes using Python and R. I would enjoy teaching a map use, analysis, and cartographic theory course as a primer for GIS students.
