PIPeR aims to improve the conference review process at AAMAS and more broadly through practical discussion and actionable initiatives, rather than theoretical concepts.
Every proposal should be a 1-3 page abstract. Example themes include:
Improvements in the bidding process;
Incentivizing reviewers;
Combating fraudulent author/reviewer behavior;
Reviewer assignment algorithms;
Analyzing conference submission dynamics at a system-wide level;
Opportunities for data collection and analysis, field experiments, etc.
These themes center around topics that will improve the peer review process at AAMAS and similar conferences, and engender interesting research projects among the workshop participants.
Submission Requirements.
Each proposal will briefly describe:
A short description of the issue/problem the proposal is intended to solve;
The current state of said issue at AAMAS and at other AI conferences (if known);
A brief description of the proposed change, analysis, or experiment;
Any other details on potential challenges and risks, required resources, ethical concerns etc.
In contrast to other workshops, our focus is not on novelty, but rather on applicability and potential for positive change. Thus for example a proposal that merely suggests how to adapt to AAMAS a method that has been tried in other conferences with positive results could be an excellent contribution.
Submissions will not be classified to accepted/rejected (with the exception of clearly irrelevant or vague submissions), but rather clustered into similar topics that can be discussed together.
By the end of the workshop, each discussion group will produce a list of at most three actionable items for the consideration of the IFAAMAS board and future AAMAS program chairs.
In addition, each group will produce a white-paper summarizing its discussions (including directions that did not become actionable items), and well-justified suggestions for conferences. These white-papers will be posted on the workshop website as an informal proceedings that will allow followup work and collaboration.
We expect all authors of a submission to participate in the workshop, if attending AAMAS. Moreover, we expect authors to be active in bringing their groups' products in front of the IFAAMAS board and in implementing those that are approved. The workshop organizers will assist in this process.
