Research Facilities

The BEAT Rooms (shown above) are two identical full-scale rooms at IITK (dimensions: 14 ft x 14 ft x 12 ft) to conduct full-scale testing of envelope retrofit solutions (e.g., cool roof paints, insulation, double glazing, etc.) under real-world conditions.

The dual-zone climate chamber present at IIT Kanpur is a test chamber with two zones (zone A and zone B in the above figure) in which the temperature and humidity can be controlled independently. The building test section (wall/window as large as 1.5 m x 1.5 m x 0.2 m in dimension) can be put in the test section (test section in the figure) and tested for its thermal and moisture-related performance.
