MONTANA MEMBER TESTIMONIALS
Member since 2013
The first time I attended an AAFCS-MT conference was as an MSU student. I was overwhelmed by the amount of support, love and genuine interest in me as a person. The other members welcomed me into this profession and made me feel like I not only belonged, but that I was worthy of contributing to the profession as well. The community that we have is part of the reason why I stayed in Montana to teach, and it is definitely why I choose to stay involved in the organization. Being involved in a professional organization provides networking opportunities, and of course, professional development. But more than anything, AAFCS-MT provides a level of support that just can't be replicated in our specific content area. These connections are lifelong and so important to who I am as a professional and individual.

I moved to Montana to attend Montana State University for Family and Consumer Sciences Education. While a student at MSU, we were encouraged to attend the annual AAFCS-MT Spring Conference. Immediately, the conference showed me the community behind all of us as FCS Educators in Montana. After completing my degree, I knew I could pick any state to teach in. However, the community provided by AAFCS-MT was a large factor in my decision to stay in Montana as a young teacher. Montana is a huge state, but with AAFCS-MT the state feels just a bit smaller and the friendships you'll gain will provide you years of support both in and out of the classroom.
I first heard of the AAFCS-MT conference when I was a student at MSU Bozeman. We were required to attend the conference, but it wasn't just like any "requirement" for a class, this one was different. I made so many connections and was able to build relationships as I began my career as an FCS teacher. This community is special and the love and support you gain from the members is something that makes a professional organization like this well worth it. After five years of teaching, I can confidently say that AAFCS-MT provides support and a feeling of belonging that helps with the difficulties and fun moments that come with in and outside of being in the classroom.
