RENEWABLE ENERGIES :
Supporting the Energy Transition and the Nascent RE Industry in Algeria
Chair: Pr. Nouar TABET (UAE)
1-Program Description
In 2023, Algeria launched a 2GW Photovoltaic Project. This will multiply by four the PV installed capacity in the country. Solar Energy has become the cheapest source of energy in history in the countries located in the sun belt namely North Africa and the middle east.
With rapidly decreasing costs and increasing efficiency, solar energy has become a cornerstone of sustainable energy planning worldwide. Energy storage technologies, particularly lithium-ion, and emerging solid-state batteries are evolving at high pace. Simultaneously, green hydrogen has emerged as a promising energy carrier and storage medium, offering pathways to decarbonize sectors traditionally difficult to electrify. Computational modeling and simulation are powerful tools to predict material properties, and optimize system designs, and forecast energy market dynamics without the time and resource constraints of physical experimentation.
The list of invited speakers includes faculty, researchers, and experts from the industry.
We invite you to join us to learn and discuss how solar energy, green hydrogen, and advanced storage technologies powered by computational approaches can contribute to the large-scale deployment of RE, and in developing the skills needed to ensure the success of the energy transition in Algeria.
2-Covered topics
The program will review the cutting-edge developments in solar energy, green hydrogen, and energy storage technologies, their potential to transform our energy landscape while addressing the complex challenges that lie ahead.
The program covers the following topics:
Solar Cell Technologies: State of the Art and Prospects
PV Panel Technologies: Design Optimization, Reliability and Recycling
Green Hydrogen Production
Battery Technologies.
Computational methods for materials discovery, system optimization, and techno-economic analysis
Grid Integration of Renewable Energies
Solar industry in Algeria: Risks and Opportunities
3-Desired Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn about the latest developments in solar technologies from the use of computational approach for material design, cell and panel fabrication and testing to the design of PV systems. They will develop a good understanding of the key challenges facing the PV deployment in desert environment and solutions enabling a smooth integration of solar energy into the grid.
4-Who Should Attend the Course?
Graduate students, researchers, professors and all motivated people in the field of renewable energies, materials sciences, engineers, economists, information technology personnel of private and public institutions who deal with any aspects of RE technologies, planning and operation.
