Long-term signature validation allows you to verify the signature's validity long after the document was signed. To achieve this, all the necessary elements for signature validation must be embedded in the signed PDF. These elements can be embedded during the document signing process or added afterward.

The necessary elements for signature validity include the signing certificate chain, certificate revocation status, and possibly a timestamp. If these elements are embedded during signing, the signature can be validated without requiring external resources.

Embedding timestamp information requires an appropriately configured timestamp server. In addition, the signature validation time must be set to Secure Time by navigating to Preferences > Security > Advanced Preferences > Verification tab.

In certain workflows, signature validation information may be unavailable during the signing but can be obtained later. For instance, a company official may sign a contract on a laptop while traveling without internet access. When internet access is later available, anyone validating the signature can add timestamping and revocation information to the PDF. Subsequent signature validations can also make use of this information.

1. Download your E-Aadhaar and open the pdf in Adobe Reader only

2. Right click on the 'validity unknown' icon and click on 'Validate Signature'

3. You will get the signature validation status window, click on 'Signature Properties'.

4. Click on 'Show Signer's Certificate.'

5. Verify that there is a certification issued by the name '(n)Code Solutions CA 2014'.

6. On Summary page(tab), Click on 'Export'

7. Click 'Next' to save the certificate in your local system (Desktop/Laptop).

8. After that click 'Next' and then 'Finish'

9. Click on 'Trust' tab, then Click on 'Add to trusted certificate'. After that Select all three options under 'Certified documents' and click 'Ok'

10. Click again on 'Validate Signature' and close the window

11. Once ' (n)Code Solutions CA 2014' has been as a Trusted Identity, any subsequent documents with digital signatures from CCA will be validated automatically when opened.

12. In case Certificate validity is seen to have an expired certificate, on the machine; you are requested to download the E-Aadhaar once again and re-validate the signature, using the said procedure given in above points and add the newly downloaded certificate again to 'Trusted Certificate' category on local machine for adding valid/current digital certificate.

13. The invalid digital signature on the downloaded e-Aadhaar can also be validated on another machine, other than the machine where it was downloaded i.e. Laptop/Desktop. However, for this document to be validated, the digital certificate needs to be downloaded and validated as per the procedure above on the alternate machine.

Note: - Once 'NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre' has been as a Trusted Identity, any subsequent documents with digital signatures from CCA will be validated automatically when opened.

I had a file in Gmail that was password protected and I was not able to validate the signature after saving it as a PDF file. Because it was a valid failure as the original document was changed. So it forwarded the mail to my outlook account, there I got the option to open with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Then I was able to validate signatures. Hope this helps someone.

I am Indian and in small business of adhaar card and I can't open the singed PDF document in adobe reader in Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and there is no alternative that open PDF and validate the signature. So anybody tell me what to do and how to ?
