Since 2010, the Institute of Thai Studies, Chulalongkorn University has organized international conferences on Asian Buddhism in collaboration with Dongguk University, South Korea, and verious institutional partners.
On June 17, 2024, together with numerous institutional partners, we established the Association for Asian Buddhist Studies (AABS) to foster strong collaboration among Buddhist scholars working in Asian countries.

The object of the Association shall be to promote the academic study of Buddhism through the international collaboration of all scholars whose research has a bearing on the subject. The means whereby the object is pursued may include the arrangement of conferences, symposia and colloquia, the development and maintenance of an Internet Web Site, the publication of a newsletter, and such other activities as the Association shall from time to time determine.
On 30–31 August 2025, the 1st Asian Association for Buddhist Studies Conference was held at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. It was hosted by the Institute of Thai Studies, with support from the Chulalongkorn University Research Fund and the Thailand Foundation.
A total of 40 speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand contributed to the conference.
