XR24は第二次世界大戦後から長らくの間アメリカ陸軍を支えたフルサイズアサルトライフル。

堅牢なフレームによる過酷な戦地での長期間運用にも耐えうる信頼性がベテラン兵士に根強く愛されていた要因だろう。

重量と取り回しの悪さが指摘されることがあるが当時の兵士は個人的なカスタムを施すケースが多く見られ鋼鉄の塊をうまいこと手懐けていた。

木製ハンドガードと木製ストック、そして銃剣を備える伝統的な外観が特徴なXR24は現代でも続くRiot Armament社のXRシリーズの始祖として未だに人々の記憶に残り続けている。

現在アメリカ陸軍ではより取り回しの良いXRシリーズ後継モデルや他社製カービンなどへの乗り換えがほぼ完了している。

それでも陸軍の中には稀に今でもXR24を愛用しているという兵士もいるんだとか。
