Forming a national network paves the way toward scholarships and college recruitment. Interlake debaters have received $7k scholarships to the Georgetown-Dartmouth Debate Institute, as well as full rides to T-20 schools.
Competition
National tournaments are one of the most unique, academically valuable experiences that policy debate has to offer. By frequenting national tournaments, students are able to compete and learn from hundreds of debate teams, who bring diverse research and perspectives to the table.
Learning
Judging on the national circuit represents one of the most intellectually lively, well-informed communities. As each round concludes and debaters receive their referendum, debaters find opportunities to learn from judges' unique expertise and deep politico-philosophical knowledge.

2022-2023
Nora Cai '23 and Annie Zhao '23 win the Stanford national tournament and reach the top 16 of the Tournament of Champions. The team earns a collective nine bids to the Tournament of Champions.
2023-2024
Jerry Song '26 and Jimmy Li '26 reach four Tournament of Champions-qualifying bid rounds, unprecedented for any freshman-freshman team in Interlake history.
2024-2025
Eva Olteanu '27 and Aaron Wang '27 become the first sophomore-sophomore team in Interlake history to full-qualify to the Tournament of Champions. Interlake places first and second at the Washington State championship.
2025-2026
Jerry Song '26 is the first-place speaker at the Dartmouth Debate Institute camp tournament and finishes in second place. Five teams reach elimination rounds at the Michigan camp tournament.
