This project is inspired by AI-Driven Personalized Learning in addition to themes we have seen throughout the course. From these inspirations, I have created the idea of an app called ChatChamp. The concept of ChatChamp revolves around revolutionizing the way students learn languages by integrating AI to create highly personalized learning paths. The app's primary focus is on improving spontaneous conversation skills, a critical yet often challenging aspect of language acquisition and something my students struggle the most with in our French classes. ChatChamp is designed to change and adapt to the diverse needs and learning styles of students as well as the objectives of the teacher to ensure a more effective and engaging learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.
As an International Baccalaureate and French Immersion French teacher, I have observed firsthand the diverse needs and learning styles of students for almost ten years. One of the biggest challenges students face is engaging in spontaneous conversation. While this can be practiced in class, it is crucial for students to continue practicing outside the classroom to start their journey to fluency. A common question I receive is how they can improve their French and I often recommend certain apps, textbooks, films, and TV shows. However, living in a predominantly anglophone city (Vancouver, BC), it is nearly impossible to find French-speaking people to converse with outside of the classroom.
As a French teacher, I would love the ability to tailor and personalize the app for my students. It would be invaluable to have a collaborative feature where teachers can track student growth and adjust the app's content based on the specific unit or theme we are working on. This would ensure that the app not only supports individual learning goals but also aligns with our curriculum, enhancing the overall educational experience for our students and for myself, as a teacher.
