So this is a tensile structure we were clear about using arches as our main design element. We explored, various designs with arches, but settle on this form due to the system it follows.
In the actual one is to one structure we will be using bamboo which is split in the centre and thicker at both the ends so that it can take the desired bend form.
The slit in the centre is to increase the ability of the bamboo to get a sharper bend and the thicker portions at the ends are for the structural strength and support. The primary members of our structure are thicker bamboos compare to the secondary members.
To replicate bamboos on our model, we used broomsticks which are thicker from the bottom and thinner at the top. Due to this feature of the broomsticks, we were not able to achieve a symmetrical arch.
To overcome this we decided to bundle up broomsticks and bend them to get a symmetrical arch.
The difference in the size of the roof creates a partition between the semi open seating area and the closed canteen. Space.
For the roofing, we will be using simple weaving method to protect from rain
