What is an RDI?
Remove – The transmission is removed from the vehicle so internal components can be accessed.
Disassemble – The transmission is completely taken apart to examine all internal parts.
Inspect – Every component is inspected for wear, damage, contamination, and failure.
Why an RDI is necessary?
Many transmission failures cannot be accurately diagnosed from external testing alone. An RDI allows the technician to:
Determine the exact cause of the failure.
Identify all damaged components.
Provide an accurate estimate for rebuilding or replacing the transmission.
Prevent unexpected costs once repairs begin.
Is there usually a charge?
Yes. A-Z Transmissions charge an RDI fee because it involves several hours of labor to remove and tear down the transmission. If the customer authorizes the repair, the fee will be waived.
