Where / how do I pay tuition?
Answer: You may submit payment (in the form of cash or check) in the tuition box located in the entryway. If credit card payments are preferred, please see the Director to receive a link to our financial portal.
On what holidays does AKP close?
Answer: New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We close at 3:00pm on Black Friday and New Years Eve.
Do you ever close for inclement weather?
Answer: We try to remain open for families but if the roads become hazardous, we do close. We let all staff and families know utilizing Lilio (our communication app) and on our private Facebook page.
My child isn't starting in the infant room. What should we bring on the first day?
Answer: Blanket, pillow, soft toy (if needed as comfort for nap), extra clothes, water bottle/cup with lid, any medicine you have a doctor's note for and would like to keep at the center; sunscreen, bug spray (if preferred), jacket/coat (weather permitted)
How are birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays celebrated in the classroom? What can our family do to celebrate?
Answer: Each classroom will typically have a holiday "party" signup sheet for parents to sign up for treats.
Birthday treats may be brought in for your child's special day, but all items should be store bought and unopened. We also do not serve items with any form of nuts in them.
What are the rules for bringing in snacks?
Answer: All items should be store bought and unopened. If you bring in a juice, it needs to be 100% juice. Also, we do not serve items with any form of nuts in them.
What are the guidelines for the center when it comes to potty training?
Answer: We are happy to work alongside with the family to help potty train their child. Potty training should be introduced at home first and ease into it at the center. Please see our potty-training document located under "current families"
What is your approach to self-feeding and mealtimes?
Answer: We begin to encourage the use of utensils when they approach the toddler age.
Are there opportunities for me to volunteer in my child's class or at the center?
Answer Yes! Parents are welcome to volunteer in their child's classroom. Speak with your child's teacher on availability to do so and a time can be schedule.
What kind of activities and learning experiences do you offer for toddlers?
Answer: We believe children learn best through play therefore the classrooms are set up in "centers" to encourage hands on exploration. Art, sensory, music, fine and gross motors, outside time and reading are some of the activities offered.
How do you handle tantrums and other challenging behaviors?
Answer: Please see our behavior management document located under "current families".
What is your policy on nap time and rest periods?
Answer: We are required to allow all children rest for at least 30 minutes. If after 30 minutes, a child shows he/she will not be falling asleep, they are provided a quiet activity to do during the duration of naptime.
How do you ensure a safe environment for toddlers who are mobile and curious?
Answer: Our toddler classrooms are set up with age-appropriate furniture and materials. The toddler staff are hands on to ensure a safe environment as the children explore the classroom.
