COMMUNITY SERVICE
Volunteer at The Lighthouse [Non-Profit Organisation] (Jan – Apr 2026)
Befriending rough sleepers in the Jurong West region and distributing food and water to them, keeping up with regulars weekly over friendly conversations
Online Community Support [Independent] (Mar 2025)
Crafted with Canva clear and engaging guides on writing university applications which gained 176 saves and shares on a local forum on Reddit, and gave personalised writing tips to 3 individuals who reached out for help
General Volunteer for Heartware Network Tuition Programme (May 2022 - Aug 2022)
Planned lessons meticulously and was resourceful in sourcing out teaching material before every tutoring session to teach English, Mathematics and Science to Primary School students with disadvantaged backgrounds
Got innovative when crafting questions specific to the students’ areas of weaknesses, allowing them to practise and improve at what they are weak in
Taught practical life lessons and soft skills like time management, effective studying and overcoming stress, using Youtube videos to supplement teaching – I got creative and resourceful when using Padlet and Jamboard to increase student participation by allowing students to share their answers with me and other students. This made lessons more engaging and memorable, so that they would remember the life skills they learnt and apply them to their lives
Held virtual lessons over Zoom - had to screen-share and actively engage students virtually
SLV Leader for Service Learning Venture @ VJC (Mar 2022 - Oct 2022)
Taught the elderly cross-stitching over Zoom – I was self-directed, learning stitching from Youtube, then recording clear video demonstrations
Got creative and resourceful when making an virtual escape room with immersive narrative, using elements from the escape room as topics of interest for small talk to get to know the elderly better
Learnt to be meticulous and considerate, calling up and weighing cross-stitching kits from different stores to deliver the best kits promptly within budget, and marking out grids on the kits as visual guides for elderly with low sightedness
Since live demonstrations of stitching were unclear on camera, I had to use clear, simple English to communicate effectively when addressing queries
Calmly and patiently dealt with technical difficulties – microphone feedback loop and unfamiliarity with Zoom
LEADERSHIP
Librarian (EXCO) (2022-2023) - Victoria Junior College Symphonic Band CCA
Learnt editing skills - did publicity for events and recruitment, creating posts using Canva, Nichi, DaVinci Resolve and Vllo to edit
Learnt Google Suite skills - used google applications (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) for stock-taking, event planning, venue layouts
Held meetings with EXCO members to plan logistics of performances and other events, being prudent when ensuring that procedures like movement of people and instruments were planned in an organised manner, being open to suggestions from any EXCO member who sees gaps in the planning, not moving on to other discussion points until everyone was clear and had no disagreements which ensured effective communication in the EXCO
Managed conflicts between members – taking their personalities into account when approaching them, making sure they feel understood instead of judged and belittled, listening attentively to their perspective when they are being accused
Liaised with teachers about proposals for performances and events held in school and external venues, making sure the proposals were reader-friendly and easily understood
I was committed to building close relationships with members even outside of practice – for school concerts that did not involve our band, I would invite our members to go together, bonding with them by watching performances together
Section Leader (2022-2023) - Victoria Junior College Symphonic Band CCA
Fostered camaraderie by initiating group study sessions with my section to spend more time together and to help them with lack of motivation in school
Service Venture Leader (2022-2023) - Class

President (EXCO) (2020-2021) - St. Margaret’s Symphonic Band CCA
During Circuit Breaker, texts became increasingly important in reaching out to members – sent weekly messages encouraging members to stay healthy and take breaks; sent forms to collect responses regarding members’ struggles and followed up to support those who needed help – made me grow in empathy and sensitivity to people’s needs and being adaptable to the changing mode of communication
Was creative in my problem solving skills when managing members’ unique struggles. During tryouts, a shy junior refused to talk, but my conductor insisted she do so. I first communicated with her using hand signs. After knowing her response, I scripted sentences for her to tell my conductor. She was able to talk to him after rehearsing a few times.
Even if mine and the Band's playing wasn't perfect, I was still optimistic, believing that my leadership and the Band's musical proficiency would eventually improve and make our conductor and ourselves proud. This optimism was able to spread to other members, inspiring them when I talked about my hope in our improvement, even if we initially fell short of expectations
Looked out for members’ welfare by encouraging and being a listening ear for members experiencing burnout
Section Leader (2020-2021) & Assistant Section Leader (2019-2020) - St. Margaret’s Symphonic Band CCA
Crafted my own clarinet methods and meticulously recorded video tutorials for my section, planning the exact explanations for music theory and clarinet technique, and planning out the agenda for when I would conduct members during Sectionals
Sent encouraging messages to my section to motivate them before school examinations and performances
I was committed to helping members improve musically. Every morning before school assembly started, I met up with members who needed extra help with instrument technique. I also sent Youtube tutorials giving helpful clarinet tips, shared pdfs of method books and vetted recordings from members, giving feedback on improving their playing
