Every good meal has a story, and mine began long before A Cook’s Soul had a name.
It started in the kitchen with my grandmother and mother, where food was more than something we ate. It was love, laughter, comfort, and a way of bringing everybody together.
Those memories planted a love for cooking that followed me into culinary school, through years of experience in the kitchen, and eventually into a dream of creating something of my own.
A Cook’s Soul is my way of sharing a little piece of that love with you—through Southern comfort, Italian-inspired creativity, and food made straight from the heart.
Made with love. Served with soul.
My love for food started long before I ever dreamed of opening a restaurant. It began in the kitchen with my grandmother and mother, where cooking was about more than preparing a meal. It was about love, family, comfort, and the joy of bringing people together.
Some of my favorite memories are of watching cooking and baking shows with my grandmother. From Cake Boss and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives to Hell’s Kitchen, I was fascinated by what people could create with food. I loved seeing the creativity, techniques, and personalities that went into every dish.
Thanksgiving at my grandmother's house was something special. The house would be so full of family that you could barely walk through it, and I loved every bit of it. Those gatherings became some of the memories I hold closest, especially after my grandmother developed blood cancer and eventually moved in with my mother.
As I grew older, I discovered another reason I loved cooking: seeing how much it meant to my mom to come home to a dinner she didn't have to prepare herself. Being able to take something off her plate by putting something delicious on it brought me a kind of happiness I wanted to keep sharing.
My culinary inspiration also grew beyond our family kitchen.
Traveling, tasting new foods, and dining with my beloved godparents introduced me to new and authentic cuisines. They're like an extra set of parents to me, and although they've lived in places like Rome, Virginia, and Maryland, the experiences we've shared have stayed with me.
And if there's one thing you should know about my family, it's that we know good food! My grandmother has a discerning palate, my mother certainly has her moments, and my godparents? Well, they're practically food critics! 😂 It takes a true cook to impress this bunch, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
One of my dreams is to find my place in the fine-dining world and see that satisfied thumbs-up from my godparents across the table. Coming from people who helped inspire my curiosity about food, that moment would mean everything.
Cooking wasn't my only creative love growing up. Art was right there beside it.
My grandmother and I would sit for hours creating abstract art together. As I continued exploring, I became interested in landscapes, human features, comics, animals, and different ways of expressing myself. My best friend was part of that journey, too. Drawing together gave us another way to share something we loved.
But plants and nature have always held a special place in my heart.
There was a time when I imagined going to college for art and food science, because I loved both the creativity and the curiosity behind making something new.
Eventually, I realized that cooking gave me a way to bring those interests together.
Food is an art form. It's a way to express yourself, tell a story, explore something unfamiliar, and create an experience that someone else gets to enjoy. Just like drawing or painting, there's always another technique to learn, another idea to explore, and another opportunity to grow.
I don't believe you ever really finish learning how to create. When you care about what you're making, you keep finding ways to make it better.
A Cook’s Soul is where my love for family, food, art, and creative expression finally found a home together.
As my love for cooking grew, I knew I wanted to do more than admire what other people created. I wanted to learn the craft, develop my skills, and discover what I could bring to the table.
That passion led me to Delcastle Culinary Arts, where my curiosity became hands-on experience and opened doors I hadn't imagined.
During high school, I had opportunities to meet celebrity chefs, work alongside restaurant owners, participate in culinary competitions, and build connections with chefs who encouraged my growth. From tastings and field trips to preparing and serving food at special events, I was learning that the culinary world was much bigger than the kitchen I grew up in.
One of my favorite experiences was helping cater for the football team under Coach Brantly. Season after season, I helped prepare breakfast and dinner spreads to keep the players fueled for their games. Between food preparation, photography, water-girl duties, cleaning, and occasionally training alongside the team, I was usually wherever an extra pair of hands was needed. It was hard work, but I loved being part of something bigger than myself.
I also enjoyed the creative and technical challenges of culinary school. Developing menus, rotating through positions in our student-operated restaurant, and completing culinary units helped me understand the different responsibilities that go into running a kitchen.
And I'll never forget the egg unit. Let's just say some of us had an easier time than others! 😂
Another experience close to my heart was baking cookies for police officers and firefighters. Spending hours, sometimes through the night, preparing treats for people serving our communities reminded me how something as simple as food could make someone feel appreciated.
My First Taste of Entrepreneurship
Before graduating high school, my siblings' father gave me the opportunity to take over an existing food operation.
With help from a family partner at the time, I put care into cleaning and improving the operation, purchasing inventory, and expanding what was already being offered.
We sold neighborhood favorites like water ice, pretzels, snacks, candy, ice cream bars, and hot dogs. The business already had a customer base, but I saw opportunities to grow through events, bulk ordering, and social media.
I was young, excited, and learning as I went. Although that chapter eventually came to an end, it gave me an early understanding of inventory, customer service, business operations, collaboration, and what it takes to turn an idea into something people can enjoy.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
My first professional culinary job was at Nordstrom Grill, and from there, my journey continued through different kitchens, dining concepts, and hospitality environments.
I've had opportunities to develop my skills at places including The Fork, Terrain Café, Maris Grove, Iacofano's Inflight Catering, Red Owl Tavern, and American Citizens League in Kennett Square.
I've also gained experience through DuPont Country Club, opportunities connected to Delcastle, and larger restaurant operations such as Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and Waffle House.
Each environment taught me something different. Some helped me develop my technique and consistency. Others exposed me to new approaches to hospitality, kitchen operations, event service, and the importance of creating an experience beyond the food itself.
And some introduced me to people I'll always appreciate.
One of those people is Charles, whom I had the pleasure of working with at American Citizens League. The people who share their knowledge, encourage your growth, and make the work enjoyable can leave just as lasting an impression as the food itself.
Over the years, I've gained approximately a decade of culinary and operations management experience, and one lesson has remained constant: there's always more to learn.
Every kitchen, every challenge, every chef, and every guest has contributed something to the cook and business owner I'm becoming.
Eventually, I realized I didn't just want to spend my life bringing someone else's culinary vision to life.
I wanted to create something of my own. Something that brought together the comfort of my family's cooking, the inspiration of discovering new cuisines, my love for artistic expression, and everything I've learned along the way.
That dream became A Cook’s Soul.
My faith in God is a big part of what keeps me going. I believe the passion I have for cooking was placed in my heart for a reason, and while I may not know the full purpose of my journey just yet, I believe this is part of the path God has set me on.
Building A Cook’s Soul hasn't been without obstacles. There have been moments when the dream felt much bigger than what I had in front of me, but my faith reminds me that I don't have to see the entire road to keep walking it. I trust that God is guiding my steps, even when I don't understand the timing.
My church, New Direction Bible Fellowship, has been part of my life since I moved to Delaware as a child. It's a community I love, and one of my dreams is to build A Cook’s Soul into a business that can give back to that community through food, fellowship, and service.
I would love for my restaurant to one day become a trusted catering partner for my church, helping bring people together for celebrations, gatherings, and events. Being able to serve the people who have been part of my journey would mean so much more to me than simply another business opportunity.
I don't know everything God has planned for me, but I know I have a love for food, a heart for serving people, and a dream I'm willing to work for. With Jesus beside me and God guiding my steps, I believe there's a reason I'm on this road.
And I'm going to keep walking it with faith, love, and a whole lot of soul. 💙
A Cook’s Soul is my love for Southern comfort food, Italian-inspired flavors, and creative expression brought together in one kitchen.
It's where the warmth of a family Sunday dinner meets the excitement of discovering something new. Where familiar dishes can have a little personality, comforting flavors can take an unexpected turn, and food is prepared with intention rather than simply put on a plate.
I created A Cook’s Soul because I didn't want to choose between the foods that raised me and the culinary experiences that inspired me. I wanted to bring them together in a way that felt natural, welcoming, and entirely my own.
You'll find that personality in everything from our playful menu names to the dishes themselves. Whether it's a soulful plate of baked chicken and mac & cheese, a rich Italian-inspired pasta, or a crispy little appetizer with a creative twist, there's a piece of my imagination behind what we serve.
And the creativity doesn't stop at the food. My love for art, flowers, nature, and beautiful spaces is part of the experience I hope to build around A Cook’s Soul, too.
Southern roots. Italian inspiration. A cook's imagination. And a whole lot of soul. 💙
At A Cook’s Soul, our mission is to bring people together through thoughtfully prepared food that celebrates Southern comfort, Italian-inspired creativity, and the joy of sharing a good meal.
We believe food should do more than satisfy your appetite. It should make you feel welcomed, cared for, and excited to experience something delicious.
Whether we're preparing an individual order, catering a family celebration, or creating something special for a community gathering, our goal is to bring the same love, attention, and personality to every occasion.
We're committed to growing with intention, continuing to learn, and creating experiences that reflect the heart behind our food.
Because to us, hospitality isn't just about what's on the plate. It's about how people feel when they receive it.
Good food. Genuine hospitality. A little creativity. And a whole lot of soul. 💙
I envision A Cook’s Soul becoming a restaurant where the comfort of Southern hospitality meets the beauty of Italian-inspired dining and artistic expression.
A place where you can walk through the doors, leave the outside world behind for a little while, and enjoy an experience that feels warm, inviting, and just a little enchanting.
I dream of rich wood details, beautiful blue flowers, lush greenery, and an atmosphere inspired by the beauty of nature. A space that feels intimate enough for a quiet dinner, welcoming enough for family gatherings, and special enough for the moments worth celebrating.
But beyond the beauty of the space, I want people to remember how they felt there.
I want guests to feel genuinely welcomed, to discover dishes that surprise them, and to enjoy the kind of hospitality that makes them want to return—not just for the food, but for the experience of being there.
My vision is to build a restaurant where creativity has room to flourish, where people can grow through their work, and where every detail reflects the care that went into creating it.
And perhaps one day, I'll have the joy of welcoming the very people who inspired me into that dining room, watching them experience everything A Cook’s Soul has become.
A place to gather. A place to celebrate. A place to feel at home while experiencing something extraordinary.
Made with love. Served with soul. 💙
Every dream has a beginning, and A Cook’s Soul is still writing its first chapters.
Right now, we're growing through individual ordering and catering, bringing our Southern and Italian-inspired creations to customers one order and one gathering at a time.
Behind the scenes, I'm continuing to develop the business, refine our offerings, build relationships, and work toward the kitchen space and equipment needed to serve more people.
I'm learning, growing, and putting the same care into building this business that I put into every dish. Some days are about cooking, others are about planning, creating, or figuring out the next step. Every part of the journey matters.
The restaurant is the bigger dream, but I'm taking the time to build a foundation that can support it.
And whether you've ordered a meal, shared our page, offered encouragement, or simply followed along to see what we're cooking up, I'm grateful you're here.
We're not at the finish line. We're just getting started. 💙
The dream of A Cook’s Soul has always been bigger than one plate, but I believe something meaningful deserves to be built with care.
My next goal is to grow into a dedicated commercial kitchen space with the equipment and resources needed to expand individual ordering, accommodate more catering opportunities, and build a stronger foundation for the future.
From there, I hope to continue growing A Cook’s Soul into the full restaurant experience I've envisioned—a place where Southern comfort, Italian-inspired creativity, beautiful surroundings, and genuine hospitality come together.
I know that journey will take time, patience, hard work, and the support of people who believe in what I'm creating. But every step forward is another opportunity to learn, improve, and bring this dream closer to life.
And the beautiful thing is, you don't have to wait until the restaurant doors open to be part of the story.
Whether you order a meal, invite us to cater your gathering, share our business with someone you love, or support our growth in another way, you're helping A Cook’s Soul become something greater.
This is only the beginning, and I'd love for you to grow with us. 💙
Something Good Is ALWAYS Cooking…
