Freedom fighter Alfaz Uddin had fought his final battle. On February 27, 2024 he succumbed to meninjitis and breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was 80 years old. Alfaz Uddin was born in Murshidabad, West Bengal and settled down with his family in Godagari, Rajshahi after the traumatic pertition of the Indian Sub continent. As a prominent political figure in Muslim League, his father Riaz Uddin Ahmed was often targeted by rival groups and he survived many violent episodes during his childhood. Riaz Uddin Ahmed went into becoming an elected member of the defunct 1970 Pakistan election and later served as a member of the Gono Porishod for newly independent Bangladesh until 1972. Alfaz Uddin was the third of 6 siblings and followed his father's footsteps in joining him at Sector 7 sub sector 4 during the Liberation War in 1971. He studied in Pabna Edward College and Jagannath University before joining Godagari High School as a science teacher. After few years in the Atomic Energy Commission in Dhaka, he traveled to the middle East for better economic future and worked there until retiring in 2000. He cherished reading, reciting poetry and enjoying theatre. After his demise, he was buried with national honor as a war hero in his family graveyard in Godagari, Rajshahi. He left beloved wife of 52 years and a son and a daughter along with 4 grandsons and many relatives who grieve him deeply.
