Nelson, Wayne R. age 83 of Shorewood, Minnesota entered the joy of eternal life in God on Monday, May 25, 2021. Preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Magnhild; and special aunt Olive and uncle Arnie. Survived by his wife of 39 years Melissa; brother, Dr. Ron Nelson; children Michael (Deanne) and Angie (Grady); and grandchildren Justin, Jessica (Andrew), Josh (Amber), Andrew, Michael, Emily, Anna (Jacob), Isabel; and great grandchildren Kaleb, Amelia, and Grayson. Faith and family made up the foundation upon which Wayne lived his life and served as the driving force for his life purpose. Wayne was charming, relational and knew how to have fun. He was a reliable source of encouragement and wisdom for his family and friends. Living with serious physical pain related to Rheumatoid arthritis since the young age of 39, Wayne was an inspirational witness for how to face adversity with courage, resilience, and faith. Wayne valued education and life-long learning. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from the University of Minnesota as well as pursuing doctoral work during his career. Much of Wayne's career was dedicated to the education of young people. He started his teaching career as a graphic arts instructor at Edison High School, and then held administrative roles at Jefferson Jr. High School, West High School, Vocational High School, and Washburn High School. Wayne had a passion for the technical arts and was recognized for his excellence in leadership for his role in the planning, construction, and operation of the new campus at 1415 Hennepin Avenue of what is today known as the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. After his work in education, Wayne continued to share his gift for leadership and development of others through his management of the Stewart Lumber Company of Minneapolis, and private coaching business. All who loved Wayne are left with hearts overflowing in gratitude and many rich memories of wonderful, shared life experiences. Wayne loved music, especially Gospel music and was a talented musician who played the banjo and guitar as well as a love for singing in quartets and choirs. He was a gifted carpenter who enjoyed maintaining his homes and many building projects and for any woodworking enthusiast had the envy of all garages. Wayne loved the outdoors, his boats on Lake Minnetonka, and he especially enjoyed many hunting and camping trips with his family. Wayne's faith in Jesus Christ sustained him throughout his entire life and is treasured by his family as the greatest legacy of his life. A memorial service will be held at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, Minneapolis campus on Thursday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. A private burial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mount Olivet Lutheran Church or Cathedral of the Pines Camp.
