SIMPLE is a simple to use logbook that you use on your Android phone or tablet.
It is intended for portable operation like POTA/SOTA.
You can start simple and learn advanced features when you want to.
The main operating principles are:
simple, touch-screen optimized, clean non-scrolling interface,
English-only (HAM-English), build-in context-sensitive HELP,
optional radio integration via CAT over cable or Bluetooth (incl. frequency and mode reading, virtual VFO knob, CW macros)
QRZ/HAMQTH lookup, DX cluster spotting,
SOTA/POTA activators support (self spotting, dedicated log exports) , POTA/SOTA spot hunting,
ADIF export.
As time passed many features have been added - thus I'll attach more videos below.
There are different use cases - from out-of-grid POTA/SOTA, through full vacations to standard home operation with over-the-air ADIF streaming to main logger... you are welcome to add yours and to share your ideas.
HOW TO GET SIMPLE for ANDROID
The SIMPLE may be publicly accessible (sold) one day, but for now it is for Friends only (called beta testers in Google).
To use it:
Send me your google mail used to registed device where you want SIMPLE (so that Google allows you to access it in the Google Play Store).
Open this link on your phone/tablet where you want to use SIMPLE, follow instructions to install SIMPLE
Optional but recommended: let Google auto-update SIMPLE
QUICK START VIDEOS
Install, Open.
Enter basic data (at least Operator's call, station call used on the air, but you can tweak more). SAVE configuration.
Do QSO, enter callsign, QRG, mode, reports (optionally more). SAVE.
Note: RST can be set to default, QRG/MODE can be fetched from radio via CAT - next videos explain how.
You can see that is in the log (LOG).
You can open burger-menu-> TOOLS and SHARE WHOLE ADIF to send your logbook in ADIF format to your main logbook via mail, google-drive etc.
Connect to radio via Bluetooth or cable.
Config CAT connection (optional but helps).
Open MAP from main screen.
Long-tap on chosen SPOT (it will tune radio if connected by CAT and will populate QSO data anyway).
Do QSO, press SAVE.
Repeat ...
Setup POTA (your POTA ID).
Do QSOs (on some radios you can use N1MM-style CW macros - I'll do a film on it).
Send log home via mail from Advanced Exports on TOOLS screen.
Optionally: See propagation data.
Set your POTA park (Activator), connect to radio via CAT ( cable or Bluetooth)
Tap MAP to see other activators
Limit map (or list) to whatever you want (e.g. POTA only, no SOTA and any spot that contains "CW @ 14" i.e. CW on 20m band
Iterate:
Long tap marker (or just select spot on list)
SIMPLE populates ADD QSO and QSYs radio to his frequency and mode
You do QSO and SAVE
Open MAP and repeat until done
Send your log home (SHARE via email etc..):
Note: If your radio supports CW sending via CAT (e.g. IC705, IC7300 or KX2, KX3) you can benefit from CW macrose (e.g. SQ7IQI profile designed for POTA but you can make yours).
This film shows using CW macros for POTA by Tom SP7Q (SQ7IQI) - the author of the pre-defined macro set in SIMPLE.
Prerequisite: radio needs to support CAT-based CW sending - it is available in Elecrafts, ICOMs IC7100, IC7200, IC7300, IC705 etc. (but not elder) and probably on some Kenwood and compatibles. Not available on any Yaesu, Xiegu, old IC706 or IC7000.
Steps:
CONFIG: Read CW macros or make your own (see HELP).
Log QSOs (main screen)
This film shows CAT support for Elecract KX3 (KX2) radio by early tester Lorenzo EA3EIB
SIMPLE can find (by asking ORI) what PARK you are in and set it as your POTA location on POTA/SOTA/IOTA SETUP screen. Currently works in Poland.
How-to:
Update SIMPLE to v. 186 or newer
Register on HAMMAP.io.
Go to CONFIG and enter registration data
Goto POTA/SOTA/IOTA SETUP screen.
Locate yourself by tapping GPS
-OR-
Tap on the map (red dot will mark it)
Tap IN button and wait - your location will be displayed and put into POTA field.
SAVE
Do QSO's (note your REF is populated with POTA).
