Welcome to Social Studies 7! I am looking forward to working with you over the next semester as we focus on historical and contemporary social, cultural, political, legal, economic and environmental issues. We study history to understand and explain why our world is the way it is.
History shows us the mistakes, triumphs and disasters of mankind and how civilizations, ideologies and economic systems succeeded or failed and why. The knowledge you will gain from Social Studies will help you understand the world you live in, learn from those before you, provide you with critical thinking skills and hopefully prepare you for your future as a positively contributing member of society.
The Social Studies 7 Curriculum focuses on history from the Ancient World to the 7th Century, using the “Big 6” Historical Thinking Concepts that focus on critical thinking skills. We will look at how these ancient societies across the globe shape our world today. Course content is largely taught from a Catholic worldview. Students will also learn about principles of First Nations learning, especially during units on first-contact.
