This course is designed as an introduction to the Japanese language for true beginners. The course covers both the written and spoken language with regular assessments. Students can expect to have proficiency with the Japanese alphabet (hiragana and katakana) and know how to write roughly 30-50 kanji by the end of the course. In addition, students will learn how to speak Japanese in common situations for first time visitors to Japan – from how to order food in restaurant to how to ask directions and read simple street signs. Lastly, students can expect to see many real-life examples of Japanese culture throughout the lessons, including manga and anime.
Please note that the course will be conducted almost entirely in English outside of oral assessments.
