The house occupies a hilltop lot in one of the most desirable locations in Los Angeles. It is an expansive terracing lot with spectacular views of downtown Los Angeles, Century City and Westwood. Our solution was to create a design that utilized the unique character of the site while maximizing the views from all levels of the residence. Passing through the gate, the circular drive court provides access to the entry stairs which wind along the side of the entry water feature. This 134’ long water wall flanks the entry walkway and leads to the foyer, a dramtic two story space that provides the first glimpse of the view that the property has to offer. The main living room and dining room are positioned on either side of the entry foyer and have full height glazing which take full advantage of the view and natural light of the lot. Adjacent to the dining room is the combined kitchen and family room that has a more intimate feeling than the living room and creates a wonderful indoor outdoor relationship with the cabana and 3,500 sf pool on the rear deck. This space also gives way to the main staircase that pertrudes into the basement lightwell and provides access to all three levels of the house.
