Hi All

I'm using Garageband's inbuilt drum loops. I save a Garageband project that consists of a 1 bar, 4 beat drum loop. I share to iTunes as .mp3. I connect my iPad to iTunes, and use the file-sharing for Loopy app to sync the drumbeat to my iPad.

I launch loopy on the iPad, press and hold one of the loop slots, choose import, and import the drum track. All works as expected thus far.

But, the drumbeat doesn't fit the loop. I have tried the "fit imported loops" option, and all combinations of track syncs, but nothing works. BTW, time signatures are 4/4 in both GB and Loopy.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Mat

I actually had this same problem while making custom loops in Garageband, but I was able to figure it out. When Garageband shares to iTunes as an MP3, it adds a split second of silence to the end of the track. The solution is to import the actual drum loop file into Loopy using iTunes file sharing.

If you're using a stock Apple loop, you can find it in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/

(On your Mac, there's a Library folder under your username and directly under your hard drive. To find the stock Apple loops, you need to be in the Library folder under your hard drive.) The loops are CAF audio files, and Loopy can play those just fine.

i want to record some guitar on audacity but i need a simple rock drum beat to record over and help me keep time. is there a loop or anything in audacity already? or is there somewhere i can download one for free that anyone knows of? i just downloaded audacity today and im really excited to use it, thanks!

I use a program called hammerhead, because it lets you import up to 6 sounds (for use on 6 channels) to make custom drum sounds. I generate sounds with Audacity, or record them, export as .wav, then use the userbank creator to put them into a convenient tight little portable package. I can then mix that with the included drum sounds, and stream to the harddrive as single samples, or entire sessions. Playing around with it will get you familliar, along with some neat results.

You could render several loops, so one loop is only your kick, one is kick with hats, etc., render all the variations you want to use.

Then you could use samplelocks on your OT, first pattern has only the kick loop, second pattern the kick+hats samplelocked, third pattern a variation etc. and you switch through your patterns.

Drum loops & samples from legendary drummers you love including Clyde Stubblefield, Antonio Sanchez, Daru Jones, Victor Indrizzo & many more. Want them all? Check out the Yurt Rock drum loop bundles!

No, currently the drum loops are audio recordings that are played back, similar to backing tracks that you can play by USB or AUX In connections. There is an Ideascale vote for this feature, so please feel free to increase the vote count. -TEMPO-IN-SPIDER-V-DRUM-LOOPS/858610-23508

There is also the metronome that has a large range of different sounds, cow bell, high hat and whatnot that is completely adjustable in terms of tempo. If you simply need a rhythm at different tempos for practice, it's present. In addition, if you have a set of miked drums, you can input that for use with the looper.

Interesting, so the RELAY wireless support (V 60 and above) for cable free instrument connectivity, very flexible looper (especially with the FBV 3 foot controller), very large selection of amplifiers and cabinets and easy to use interface are much less important that tempo controlled drum loops?

I have a very old Yamaha board, which is more than 20 years old, this multieffect board have a synthesizer and a drum looper, which can actually make the job. Therefore it's simply not good enough for a new amplifier for 2018 that such basic functions is not support !

The nonadjustable tempo on the drum loops is a bummer, be sure to vote on ideascale! Another option would be to use the USB or AUX in on the back to play drums loops from an external device or even your phone. There's some really great drum loops apps available now, I really like Drum Genius.

I agree that it's disappointing not to be able to change the drum loop tempo, but, at the same time I would not say it's totally useless or just stuffed in for marketing purposes. It does make it fun when exploring new sounds and testing riffs when practicing alone, and like someone else mentioned, if you connect to software you'd end up using other drum machines and effects anyway. Lastly, I think the main reason you can't change the tempo is 'cause the drums are LIVE tracks and the sound of the drums would get higher or lower in tone depending on the tempo change. You know, Alvin and the chipmunks at high speed or a blob sludge monster at low speed, lol. Anyway, just my two cents. I didn't really buy my V60 with drums in mind so to me it's still a quality add on and I'm happy to have it, but I also agree, the ability to change tempo some how would be nice.

Like was said above, there are a lot of different metronome selections that are all fully adjustable. And there are a lot of different drum loops with lots of varying tempos. It is not just three or four drum loops, and that is it -- way more than that. But, please post what you end up deciding on. I know I am interested.

These live drum performances, recorded in a state-of-the-art studio with world-class microphones, are ready to use in multitrack format. Each style is an entire library of matching loops that can be arranged to fit any song form, just as a real drummer would play them, and includes individual loops for verses, bridges, choruses, fills, and variations. The multitrack loops contain separate tracks for kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, overhead mics, room mics, and ambient mics so you can mix and edit to taste.

I have been out of the recording hobby for a bit. Any suggestions where i could get some rock / heavy rock drum loops / tracks / midi tracks. Hoping to find some that are either complete song formats or are matched with beats, fills, intros, bridges etc. Any suggestions ?

To start with the SI Drum kit has a bunch built right in. Pretty limiting but I have found some of them worked well for a starting point when looking for a drum machine groove to start a song going. I then replace everything in real time using a controller track by track.

Open the SI Drum GUI, look on the list and open say the Jazz& Blues, Now grab the 12 bar and drop it into a empty midi track. These are groove loops so you can drag them out for the length of the song. Tip: zoom out so the 3 minutes shows as you whole screen.

I've used the Discrete Drums loops by Chris Hughes for virtually all my projects since 2016 (except for the 2020 project, which is a different musical genre). Hard to find better IMHO, he's a pounder with finesse and style.

next questions. What is "SI" ? Folks still using ezdrummer ? I am looking form something that sounds good and i don't have to do much mixing with. setting levels is fine, but not wanting to have to eq etc. like i did with BFD. What is the go to drum software these days?

I mentioned SI drums because if you have Cakewalk you have it. Myself I use both Session Drummer and Addictive drums both which came with Sonar versions. back when. SI Drums is very basic but at least better than using TTS_1 drums.

I don't think you will find complete song drum loops, but there are thousands of popular songs in MIDI format that you could download and remove everything but the drums if you wanted. Some cost money, but there are many that are free. A little slicing and dicing to fit your idea for your song and wala, a complete song drum track.

But you could do that with the supplied loops, and it's not that hard.

Or, get a cheap MIDI keyboard and play in your own drums. Again, not too difficult.

Welcome to the forum.

I would suggest Jamstix instead. Load up a kit, pick a drummer and a style and let 'er rip; it creates a drum part on the fly. Where it really shines, however, is when you dive into the controls and nudge different things. Like the kick/ snare groove but not the hi-hat pattern? Change it. Wanna add some tom accents? Done.

5) I sometimes find it easier to grab a midi loop and edit a bit to make my own when i write a tune without drums and need to add them in. But sometimes i just pick a groove and write a tune around it. But what is most valuable to me arethe fills. having a large library of these is great.

First, apologies...his name is Chris McHugh, and the full name of the set is Discrete Drums Series 2. Sonoma Wireworks bought the Discrete Drum libraries; the DVDs aren't available anymore, they've been incorporated into their drum plug-in. You can sometimes find the DVD set on eBay or Reverb.com. Although the listing ended, this is the droid you're looking for.
