Each year, we look for enthusiastic individuals to join our board and help guide the 808 (Thunderbird) Wing. Our goal is to ensure the Wing continues to grow and evolve in line with our Constitution, by-laws, and, most importantly, the wishes of our membership.
We’re building a welcoming community at the Wing—one that embraces our members, Cadets, and the wider community. Inclusivity and fresh ideas are key, and that’s why we need more voices at the table. When only a small group carries the load, it’s easy for ideas to become repetitive and energy to wane.
If you’re interested in becoming a “Member at Large” and contributing to our fantastic board, we’d love to hear from you before our AGM on October 26th. You may also know someone who would be a great fit—please feel free to encourage them to join the Wing and get involved.
We are especially looking for someone to take on the Membership role. If that sparks your interest, I’d be happy to share more details about the position.
Our board meetings are held every couple of months and usually last about an hour (sometimes a little longer). We work well together, keep things enjoyable, and always aim to support one another.
Please consider joining us—you can truly make a difference!
**Please note you must be a member to sit on the board but not to just volunteer**
808 (Thunderbird) Wing
Royal Canadian Air Force Association
Nanaimo, BC – Since 1966
WHO ARE WE?
We are the 808 (Thunderbird) Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, proudly serving the Nanaimo area since 1966. Our organization began with a mission to support retired Air Force members and has grown to include veterans, aviation enthusiasts, and community-minded citizens from all walks of life.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Our mission is to serve youth, seniors, and the greater community—with a special focus on the 205 (Collishaw) Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. Our building provides space for social events, meetings, and cadet activities—all sustained by the hard work and dedication of our members.
WHY JOIN US?
Today’s economic pressures are creating challenges for both seniors and youth.
Seniors are facing service cutbacks, longer medical wait times, and financial strain.
Youth programs like cadets are underfunded, despite being proven tools for leadership, skill-building, and citizenship.
We sponsor 205 Squadron, helping provide what the government no longer can—scholarships, equipment, and opportunity.
But we need help.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
By becoming a member, you’ll join an organization with purpose.
Support youth development
Uplift our senior members
Preserve stories and history
Share your energy, talents, and ideas
Whether you’re a veteran or just passionate about giving back—you belong with us.
