Travel

The airport Sao Paulo Guarulhos is the closest international airport and is very well connected with daily direct flights to all big cities worldwide. You may also fly in via Rio de Janeiro if this is more convenient for your international flight.

Transportation from/to the airport

The local transportation from the São Paulo international airport in Guarulhos to the São Paulo downtown area is about one-hour by taxi. Transportation from the Guarulhos Airport to some of the hotels in our list of recommended ones will be organized by the workshop at limited times. When you know your arrival and departure time, please send the information to Valdir Guimarães (valdir.guimaraes@usp.br) and also enter it on the online registration form.

NOTE (1) : There are public transportations such as buses from the airport. But they are not easy to find and to ride as most Brazilians (due to the country's continental dimensions) do not speak english. But you can find information on the web if you want to try public transportation.

NOTE (2): You may also fly in via Rio de Janeiro if this is more convenient for your international flight. Flights from Rio to São Paulo are frequently operated and cheap (about US$ 150.00). Let us know if you need advice on that. Please provide your travel dates as soon as you have booked your flight tickets. We recommend early booking of plane tickets.

Visa

Please make sure as soon as possible you know the visa regulations for your country. Some countries do not need visa, but most do need one. Usually, you can apply for a visa by just stating that you are going to a conference. A common trick is to ask for a tourist visa and not a business one, as tourists get multiple entry visa. In this case you just give the hotel address. If your consulate requires an invitation letter, please contact Valdir Guimaraes, valdirg@if.usp.br as soon as possible.

Hotels and local transportation

The organization will provide daily local transportation from the hotels listed below to the local of the event at the university and back. We recommend that you book a hotel nearby Av. Faria Lima (Av. Stands for Avenida, or Avenue), considered a good neighborhood area of downtown São Paulo and it is not too far from the University (about 5 km). You have to book the hotel by yourself, and we suggest you the following hotels (prices are only indicative since you can choose standard, single, double or luxury rooms/apartments and prices might change). During the week of the workshop, there is a big event in the city of São Paulo and most of the hotels are not applying the special rate agreement with the university. So, the prices are a little higher than the ones at the other weeks. My suggestion is the first Hotel from the list below.

Quality Faria Lima (***) about 550,00 reais (US$ 110,00)
