Σύντομη περίληψη

The talk will discuss selected concepts of sustainable development with its implications on the future of chemistry teaching. A justification will be given to re-orient the chemistry curriculum along the philosophy of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Different models of integrating ESD with the teaching of chemistry will be presented and illustrated by cases from lower and upper secondary chemistry classrooms. The examples show that a combination of the philosophical framework of ESD with the teaching of chemistry has large potential to help students developing general educational skills for contributing to the development of a sustainable future. However, it also opens learning for a more balanced view towards chemistry in its societal and professional context.
