7 Khoon Maaf is the soundtrack to the 2011 film of the same name directed, produced and composed by Vishal Bhardwaj starring Priyanka Chopra. The film's nine-song soundtrack featured lyrics written by Gulzar, Javed Sheikh and Ajinkya Iyer and released digitally on 24 January 2011 and in physical formats the following day. The album received positive reviews from music critics.
Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar worked on the film's soundtrack, post their successive decade-long collaborations, while Javed Sheikh co-wrote "Bekaraan" with Gulzar and "O' Mama" by Ajinkya Iyer.[1] The song "Darling" is inspired by the Russian folk song "Kalinka". The track itself featured Russian words in the lyrics as in the film's context, one of Susanna's husbands was Russian.[2] Bhardwaj brought four singers from Russia to record the vocals, and also credited the track on the album cover as well as the film.[3] "Tere Liye", sung by Suresh Wadkar, was not used in the film. The soundtrack was digitally released via Ovi (Nokia) internet service on 24 January 2011, and via CD on 25 January 2011. Chopra and Bhardwaj launched the album at the Radio City and Radio Mirchi offices in Mumbai, where all the songs aired live on those stations during the physical release.[4][5]

I had totally forgotten about this song till I heard it the other day on the radio. Another beautiful song from the same movie is Bekaraan (with the interspersed dialogues), but I will leave the latter for some other time.
In the movie I think the song refers to the nature of the female protagonist in the movie : Priyanka Chopra, who looks for love everywhere, but never finds true love, and she keeps searching for true love, never being satisfied with what she has, never ready to make adjustments and form a stable relationship with the men who come into her life, just like a dry leaf tossed by the wind, just like a vagabond.

the song is beautiful... simple to understand the words individually... there's surely a more complex meaning to the totality of the song... sentences mean deeper than the words themselves... can't clearly understand that underlying meaning... can someone help?

A fun celebration track with a naughty appeal to it, this track based on Russian folk song 'Kalinka' is instantly catchy and makes one tap feet along with it. The song also reminds one of lesser heard song 'Pyaar Mein Sau Uljhane Hai' (from Kyun Ho Gaya Na) which had released seven years ago. No, 'Darling' is not the kind of song that makes one head for that dance floor in the discotheque. However, when seen on screen it can well be expected to be a live wire.
