meet your teachers

Meet Mrs. Roy! She has been teaching sixth grade at CIS since 2001 and been a teacher since 1996! When Mrs. Roy first started she was a first grade teacher, and then a fifth grade teacher in Torrington. She has a love for teaching Math, Science and Social Studies. At home she is a wife and mother of three. Her kids range in age from a son who is 13 two boy-girl twins who are 10. She loves her family very much.

Mrs. Roy has a true passion for sports. She loves the New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. If she is home, she's often watching one of these two teams play. But most of the time she is on the fields in Simsbury watching her kids play soccer, baseball or flag football.

Another passion of Mrs. Roy's is reading. She has read over 5 books for fun this summer! She loves reading books by Elin Hildebrand, Jamie Brenner and Emily Giffin. Her all time favorite kids book author though is Katherine Paterson who wrote The Great Gilly Hopkins. Mrs. Roy also enjoys shopping, her favorite store is The Loft, and she loves to eat out especially at Max A Mia or Bricco.

Meet Mrs. Washburn! This is Mrs. Washburn's 8th year of teaching and her first one with her new last name as she got married over the summer in Mystic! She grew up in the wonderful community of Canton! Mrs. Washburn went to the University of Maryland to study digital media and went on to work for the Discovery Channel in Washington, DC. Mrs. Washburn decided as exciting as working in technology and television was, she always wanted to be a teacher so she moved back up to Connecticut and attended The University of Saint Joseph to follow her dreams! Luckily, she now finds herself teaching 6th grade, where she still has such fond memories of being a student here herself!

Mrs. Washburn enjoys reading and writing, relaxing by any form of water, trying new restaurants (sushi is her favorite!) and traveling with family and friends! She is a pop culture fanatic and loves to talk shop with TikTokers. She is a proud dog mom to her 9 year old rescue, Cash! Mrs. Washburn and her new husband live close by in Avon.

Mrs. Washburn loves reading all sorts of books and can't wait to hear what everyone has read recently. This is going to be a great year and she can't wait to get to know all of you!
