Introduction

RELEVANCE

When reading text, sometimes the text does not clearly state information. Sometimes this information is necessary to understand the author's meaning of the text. You will have to use other words in the text, or even pictures to help understand the meaning of the word or phrase. This is called using inferences. Those inferences lead to a deeper understanding of the text. Once a firm understanding of the term is discovered, use this information to base your opinions or analysis. Give credit to the author, citing where you found the answers to your problem. This is called citing text evidence.

connections

Let's look at the word analysis. To analyze something means that you break down information in order to pick out the main idea, the reasons that support the main idea, and the evidence that supports the reasons. It goes beyond memorizing facts, dates, and names. Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), must analyze tons of information in order to keep our country safe.
