OUR 66 RAMBLER CLASSIC
"Daisy Mae"
"Daisy Mae"
This website documents the restoration of our 1966 Rambler Classic 770 Cross Country Station Wagon.
Our Rambler "Daisy Mae" was bought off the showroom floor, in 1966, from North East Rambler in Chamblee, GA. In 1967 the family moved to Florida where Daisy Mae continued to be the families daily driver. In 1972, Daisy Mae was involved in a serious accident and was almost totaled but, after an extensive repair was back out on the road. By the late 70's, she was relegated to the side yard and mostly used for hauling items to big or unfit, to be carried in the families newer daily drivers. At the end of the 70's, she got a new life as high school transportation. By the early 80's, with high school driving finished, she was relegated to the garage where she sat for many years. The family discussed selling Daisy but, the emotional attachment was to great. There were many attempts to begin a restoration but, with busy schedules, these attempts lost steam. Finally in 2008, she was moved to Alabama, where a family member was located, and a serious restoration of Daisy Mae began. In 2014, when the family member returned to Florida, Daisy Mae also returned home with a good deal of restoration complete. As with any classic car, restoration work continues but, Daisy Mae and the family now enjoy showing her at car shows and around town where she always receives a warm greeting.
